A basic RPG, most likely, and a sort of deconstruction of magic-fantasy.

Story

The human empire spanned many stars and no power was denied them. Their technology was unsurpassed by any race. Humans were able to improve themselves, giving them abilities only dreamed upon before. No distance was too far, and no obstacle, too high, and they knew it. But their pride would be their undoing. New, controversial research was undertaken, in an attempt to manipulate the very core of the universe itself, and to secure the position of godhood for the human race. But it went wrong. In a split second, the fabric of the reality was shaken and broken and the universe was shattered into countless pieces. Stars, were separated from each other and empire lay in ruin, each world forever apart from the others.

We don't know the tales of the other worlds, but for ours, we call that day the Shattering. Our reliance on Empire technology was so great that after the shattering, we lost all vestiges of modernity and fell into the dark ages. Billions died, unable to cope without the luxuries previously taken from granted and the rest of us learned once again how to make fire, to hunt, to kill and to survive as our ancestors from before history.

It's been 500 years since the Shattering and the powers of the land exist in a sort of feudal system, where Houses struggle against each other dominion and the story of the pre-Shattering empire is all but almost forgotten. Their has been rumors that portals to other worlds have begun to open, and for those who remember the tale are wary of it.

Classes

There are a few people who were born with the abilities created by the Empire. Some never realize it, but those who can train it become great warriors and wizards of the land, shaping the rivers of civilization.

Elementalists

The old empire left advanced, microscopic "nanobots" behind, permeating all matter. They are left unused until one with the power to control them can utilize them once more. A mage is able to manipulate these nanobots, although they be unaware of their existence, but in that, shape the world. A powerful mage could induce earthquakes, summon tornadoes and rain fire from the sky.

Benders

The ability of bend space and time itself is given to these men. An untrained bender might be thought to be simply fast, but a powerful bender is unmistakable. They can stop time, jump through space and even tear the fabric of space and time itself.

Shifters

The powers of gravity bow to these men. They are able to push and pull objects at their will, defy gravity and a few have been noted to tear apart mountains. A common tactic for some shifters is to create small gravity wells between the swing of their weapon and their enemy, pulling the two together for a powerful strike.

NightWalkers

These men are able to bend light around them, and manipulate it to their will. Invisibility is a common power of theirs, but their manipulation of light can also lead to highly perceptive sight and even energy blasts.

Psychists

Nothing like the superstitious psychics of lore, these men have real powers over the minds of man. Only the very strong of will can resist their strength. From reading minds, to psychic control over man and animal, these men are deceptively powerful.

ShapeShifters

These have power over their very own forms, changing matter and becoming what their mind wills. A weaker ShapeShifter could change their appearance to another man, but a strong one could become terrible creatures of myth as large and fearsome as a Dragon.

Gameplay

Due to the complexity of the magic system, and it's interaction with the world, the first game (if there will be a second) will be in a 2d OldSkool RPG format (old FFish). A simplified 2D Action RPG could work, magic would be more limited, but more interactive.
