This game is built on the EoN library I'm writing for BlitzMax around these various games... I intend on making it easy to make new games quickly with little code work.

Location Creation Tutorial

With the power of the EoN engine, creating a new Location is really easy. See how easy it is with the following walkthrough and tutorial. A brief explanation of how Locations work is needed. Each location is known to the game by its ID, this is how each location interacts with each other. Each field changes how the location interacts with the environment.

  • ID: This is the ID of the Location, it must be an interger and it cannot be used by another Location.
  • Name: This is the Name of the Location, it will be used in text when it labels it.
  • Sort: This affects how its handled. 0 is Empty, which means it will be treated like it doesn't exist. 1 is Exists, which means it will be treated normally. 2 is Exit which means if you enter it, you will get a special condition... In other games these may vary although I recommend using this system.
  • Avoid Effect: This is how the environment effects both character's avoid in a battle. In a cell this will be higher than say, in an open field.
  • Description: This describes the area for the player when he's adjacent to it.
  • Adjacent Location West: This is the ID of the Location to the west.
  • Adjacent Location North: This is the ID of the Location to the north.
  • Adjacent Location East: This is the ID of the Location to the east.
  • Adjacent Location South: This is the ID of the Location to the south.

Walkthrough

  • Go to the Location Editor and open it. It is found in Star Wars Death Star Escape\Data\Location Editor.exe
  • At the prompt, go to the Data Folder, and then into the Locations Folder. Type in "Main Hall 1", .lcn is implied.
  • Change the ID to 3
  • Change Name to "Main Hall 1"
  • Change Sort to 1
  • Change Adjacent Location East to 2 (Hall 1138)
  • File>Save
  • File>New
  • At the prompt, go to the Data Folder, then into the Locations Folder. Open "Hall 1138.lcn"
  • Change Adjacent Location West to 3 (Main Hall 1, what you just created)
  • File>Save
  • Exit the Editor.
  • Open in any text editor (I use Notepad) Location Index.txt
  • At the end add "\Data\Locations\Main Hall 1.lcn"
  • Save
  • Start the Game

Procedure

  • Open Location Editor
  • Create Location
  • Change surround locations
  • Add Location Line.
